Why is Curl ending publication?
After many years of publishing, we’ve made the decision to stop producing new print and digital magazine issues. This wasn’t an easy choice, but it allows us to preserve Curl’s work, take care of our community responsibly, and thoughtfully transition to what comes next.
Our February 2026 issue is the final print issue of Curl.
Is Curl going away completely?
No! Curl isn’t disappearing.
Our website, digital editions, and archive will remain active. We’ll also continue publishing online many articles from past print issues that were never released as individual posts. While we won’t be creating new magazine issues or new editorial content right now, the work that already exists will continue to live on.
What’s changing about subscriptions?
Because Curl will no longer be publishing new magazine issues, subscriptions are transitioning from a magazine-based model to a membership-based model focused on online access and the archive.
When your current subscription term ends, it will transition to a new membership tier, based on your existing plan.
Do I need to do anything right now?
No — no action is required if you’re comfortable with the transition.
Your plan will change, but it will remain active through the end of your prepaid term. Price changes will take effect at the next renewal.
How will my current subscription map to the new memberships?
You will receive an email detailing how your existing subscription will transition. Please note that because Curl is no longer publishing on a quarterly schedule, quarterly subscriptions will transition to monthly memberships when it’s time to renew.
What are my options if I’m not comfortable with the transition?
These are your options:
1. Do nothing
Your subscription will continue through its current term and transition to the new membership when it renews.
2. Switch / Cancel
You may switch or cancel your subscription by logging into your account. If you cancel, your access will continue through the end of your prepaid period, and no new membership will begin. Cancelling does not initiate a refund.
— The below options are for yearly subscribers only. —
3. Use your remaining credit for previous issues
You can opt to receive available back issues in place of a monetary refund. We’ll apply your remaining subscription credit toward those issues; for print, you’d only cover the cost of shipping. This is a great option if you’d like to complete your collection or revisit favorite past editions.
4. Cancel and request a refund
If you’d prefer a refund for the remaining time on your subscription, you may cancel your subscription and request a refund. To request a refund, use this form. Email refund requests will not be accepted.
How are refunds calculated?
Monthly and quarterly subscriptions will not be refunded, as they have been fulfilled. You may cancel at any time to prevent future charges, and access will continue through the end of your current billing period.
Refunds of annual plans are pro-rated by remaining time, calculated in quarters, based on when your most recent renewal occurred.
- If your most recent renewal was between 10/16/25–1/15/26, you’ll receive three quarters of your payment back.
- If it was between 7/16/25–10/15/25, you’ll receive half of your payment back.
- If it was between 4/16/25–7/15/25, you’ll receive one quarter of your payment back.
- If it was between 1/16/25–4/15/25, no refund is available, as all four quarterly issues were delivered.
Refunds are issued to the original payment method.
When will refunds be processed?
Refunds will be processed in the order received, and they make take time to complete. We appreciate your patience and understanding as we’re wrapping up operations.
Refund requests must be submitted by March 13th, 2026. Request a refund here.
Will I still have access to my digital editions?
Yes! Your purchased issues remain accessible, and you’re welcome to download PDFs of them for your personal archive.
What happens to my archive access if I cancel?
Access to the online archive is tied to an active subscription or membership and will end when your prepaid term concludes if you choose to cancel.
